Seoul falls back into UN hands eleven days after Inchon

The 1st Marine Division fights its way up from Yongdungp'o and plants the flag over the South Korean capital.

Eleven days after the Inchon landing, UN troops finished what they had started. On September 26, 1950, the 1st Marine Division, having crossed the Han River and clawed through Yongdungp'o against dug-in North Korean armor, retook Seoul from Kim Il Sung's forces. General Edward Almond's X Corps had cut the enemy's supply lines from the coast; now the capital itself was back under Syngman Rhee's government. Ten weeks after the invasion began, Seoul was South Korean again…
